🥏 Introduction to Ultimate Frisbee
🤔 What is Ultimate Frisbee?
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact, self-refereed team sport played with a Frisbee™. It mixes the best features of sports such as Football, Basketball, American Football and Netball into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game. It is the fastest growing spectator sport in the world played by thousands all over the world in the Open, Mixed and Women’s divisions
The field is about the same length as a football field, but narrower. There is an end zone for each team to defend. The disc is progressed by catching and passing it to a teammate. Players cannot run with the disc. A team scores a goal if one of their players catches the disc in the opponent’s end zone.
🎯 Spirit Of The Game (SOTG)
Ultimate is the only International Olympics Committee recognised sport to be self-officiating and promote Spirit Of The Game (SOTG).
The sport places the onus of fair play on each player, thus, nullifying the need for a referee. SOTG is a detailed and structured definition of sportsmanship.

Ultimate has been played in India for almost 20 years. Over the last five years alone, the sport has seen exponential growth.

India has over 20,000 registered players coming from 19 states, playing in over 80 registered clubs across the country.
India Ultimate (previously known as Ultimate Players Association Of India) is an elected, player run body formed with the vision to spread the sport in India. The UPAI is fully recognised by the WFDF (World Flying Disc Federation) which is recognised by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).

👬 Impact on communities
In India Ultimate is being used as a bridge between communities. India Ultimate (IU) has partnered with multiple NGOs across the country to use Ultimate as a tool for addressing the gender divide and pertinent socio-economic issues.
At the school and collegiate levels, Ultimate is being used to improve school and college attendance while also focusing on academic performance.
🥉 Our most recent bronze medal winning campaigns
India won 2 bronze medals in the Asia-Oceanic Championships in 2019 (Beach and Grass surfaces)! In the recently concluded Asia-Oceanic Grass Ultimate Championships in 2023, a young Team India finished 4th (this team comprised of players under the age of 24).

🇯🇵 Asia-Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championship, Japan 2024
After successfully hosting the inaugural Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships (AOBUC) in Japan in 2019 before the pandemic, AOBUC will be hosted on the beaches of Shirahama and Tanabe in the Wakayama Province from Wednesday 12th – Sunday 16th June 2024. The Beaches both located on the Pacific Ocean, are the perfect backdrop to staging this event with experienced Tournament Director Amane Asai with support from the JFDA team.

🪧 Selecting India’s best beach ultimate athletes
The National Team is selected from players across the country by conducting local pre-tryouts followed by a final round of tryouts for those who qualify Players hail from varying socio-economic backgrounds, and are selected only based on merit.
National teams go through 6-8 training camps from the point of selection till tournament. Team India players are fully supported by UPAI – every national team player is treated equally!
🇮🇳 Meet India’s best!
60% of the players on the national squad are from underprivileged and tough backgrounds. Each player has been selected solely on their skill, commitment, and sportsmanship. If the entire burden of covering the expenses of participating in the tournament were placed on these players, they would unfairly be excluded from participating solely based on their financial background.
